Federation
Federation Lore
The Federation is an interstellar confederation of states whose central ideals are peace, unity, and cooperation among different worlds and peoples. It sees itself less as a conquering power and more as a political and cultural community that prioritizes stability and shared values over military domination.
Despite its peace-oriented self-image, the Federation emerged and established itself in a conflict-ridden galaxy. It is mentioned repeatedly that its history has been marked by wars, sacrifices, and bloodshed. Within the Federation, peace is not taken for granted, but is viewed as a hard-won achievement.
The Federation fundamentally pursues a policy of cooperation and integration. Ideally, other powers should join it voluntarily. New members are welcomed “with open arms and an open mind.” At the same time, however, a subtle hegemonic claim is evident: in the long term, it is expected that other empires will join the Federation or adopt its values.
The Federation officially justifies its military strength on defensive grounds. It emphasizes that it does not seek conquest, but reserves the right to resolute retaliation and self-defense should alliances be broken or its security threatened.
The Federation’s ideology is strongly characterized by optimism and a belief in progress. Its representatives view the unification of the galaxy as a historic step forward and regard peace as a universal value that could potentially extend even beyond the known boundaries of the galaxy.
At the same time, a self-critical perspective also exists within the lore: in the event of its failure, the Federation is described as a failed ideal whose most important legacy is not political power, but the hope for future generations to carry its ideas forward.
